Best resistance bands and portable gym kit (UK), ranked
The short answer
The Bodylastics Pro Series tube set is our #1 resistance band kit for a UK home gym. For £103.02 on Amazon.co.uk you get five stackable bands (190 lb combined), handles, a door anchor, ankle straps and a bag, so one kit covers presses, rows, curls and leg work [1]. Buy Rogue Monster Bands if you train in a rack, the Decathlon set of 4 if price matters most, and Mirafit singles if you need very heavy loops.
Ratings caveat: Band ratings are not standardised: some brands quote tension at 100% stretch, others at maximum stretch or at twice resting length. Peak tension arrives at the end of the range of motion, so compare bands within a brand, not across brands.

Prices and ratings below were read from each retailer page on the evening of 5 November 2026. Resistance figures are copied exactly as each seller publishes them, with the stretch basis they state. We have not measured tension ourselves.

Why the Bodylastics Pro Series is our #1 portable gym
Our ranking starts with training effectiveness: how many useful movements a kit supports and how far the load can grow. The Pro Series wins that tier clearly. Five tube bands clip onto the handles individually or together, from the 13–50 lb band (about 23 kg) to the 19–80 lb band (about 36 kg at maximum stretch), and all five stack to 190 lb [1]. The door anchor turns any solid door into a cable station for rows, presses and face pulls, and the ankle straps add kickbacks and leg curls that loop bands handle awkwardly.
On safety and build, the bands are 100% natural latex with a patented internal anti-snap safety cord and patented clips, according to the maker [1]. The whole kit weighs 3.25 lb, so it fits in a drawer or a suitcase. The listing holds 4.6★ from 5,487 ratings, although that count is shared across colour and set variants.
Two gaps keep this from being a perfect score. The Amazon.co.uk listing does not show a warranty term, and some reviews report resistance that feels inconsistent between bands of the same rating. Neither outweighs the range of movements the kit unlocks for the price.
Rogue Monster Bands: best heavy loop if you own a rack
Rogue’s 41 in natural-latex loops are the bands you see hanging off power racks for banded squats, deadlifts and assisted pull-ups. Rogue rates the #3 Green at 40 lb (about 18 kg) at 100% stretch, with #4 at 65 lb and #5 at 95 lb [2]. They hold 4.8★ from 835 reviews. There is no handle or anchor in the box, so you need a rack, a pull-up bar or a sturdy post, and the #4 and #5 were out of stock when we checked (the #3 was £17, #6 £37 and #7 £48).
Decathlon Domyos set of 4: best value full set
At £29.99 for four graded loops, the Domyos set is the cheapest way to cover light mobility work through to assisted pull-ups [3]. Decathlon rates the bands at 10, 20, 30 and 40 kg, measured at twice the resting length, and backs them with a 2-year warranty. The 100% latex loops roll into a gym bag. It ranks below Rogue because it has a much smaller review base (4.8★ from 80) and the lighter bands overlap with what the Bodylastics tubes already cover.
Mirafit Resistance Bands: the widest heavy range
Mirafit sells non-snap 100% natural-latex loops, 4.5 mm thick, as a set of six (£74.99) or as singles, such as the #2 at £9.99 and the #3 at £11.99 [4]. The range runs from the #2 at 45–50 lb (about 20–23 kg) and the #3 at 75–100 lb up to the #6 at 175–230 lb. Reviews average 4.9★ from 88, and Men’s Fitness wrote that the set “felt seriously robust” after a six-week test [5]. The full set costs close to the Bodylastics kit without handles or an anchor, which is why singles are the smarter buy here.
WODFitters #2 Black: a single pull-up assist band
The #2 Black loop (30–60 lb) is one of the best-reviewed pull-up assist bands on Amazon.co.uk, with 4.5★ from 6,212 ratings and a 60-day money-back guarantee [6]. It is natural latex, 4.5 mm thick. It ranks last only because £27.98 buys one resistance level, while every kit above covers more movements for similar or less money.
Why band resistance numbers do not compare across brands
There is no common test standard for resistance bands. Rogue quotes tension at 100% stretch [2], Decathlon at twice resting length [3], and Bodylastics at maximum stretch [1]. Band tension rises the further you stretch it, so the peak load arrives at the end of each rep, not the start. A 40 kg loop and a 40 lb loop from different brands can feel closer than the numbers suggest. Pick one brand for your progression and move up within its colour scale.
- Check the stretch basis before comparing two bands: 100%, 2× length or maximum stretch.
- Expect the hardest point at lockout, which suits presses and squats but makes the bottom of a rep easy.
- Inspect latex for nicks and white marks before each session and replace a damaged band.
Tube sets vs loop bands: which suits a small home gym?
Tube sets with handles and a door anchor, like the Bodylastics kit, mimic a cable machine and suit people without a rack. Long loop bands, like Rogue, Mirafit, Decathlon and WODFitters, are better for pull-up assistance and for adding tension to barbell lifts, but need an anchor point. Many home gyms end up with both: a tube kit for accessory work and one or two heavy loops for the rack. See our power rack rankings if you are building around a rack.
How we ranked these resistance bands
We apply the same lexicographic tiers as the rest of the site: training effectiveness first, then published safety and build evidence, then space and value. Ratings and review counts break ties; affiliate status never changes rank. The full rules are on our editorial policy and research methods pages, and common questions are answered in the FAQ.
What we have not verified yet: recall databases (CPSC and UK OPSS) have not been checked for this category, warranty terms are missing for Bodylastics, Rogue and Mirafit, and we have not tested tension ourselves. This page summarises published listings and is not medical or injury advice. Affiliate note: Amazon.co.uk links use our Associates tag and we earn from qualifying purchases; Rogue, Decathlon and Mirafit links are unpaid.
FAQ
Are resistance bands enough for a home gym?
For accessory work, mobility and travel, yes: a tube set such as the Bodylastics Pro Series stacks to 190 lb [1]. For heavy squats and deadlifts, bands work best added to a barbell, not instead of one.
Which resistance band should I buy for pull-up assistance?
A long loop. The WODFitters #2 Black (30–60 lb) and Rogue Monster Bands are built for it; heavier people usually need a thicker band for more assistance [2][6].
Why does a 40 kg band feel lighter than expected?
Because ratings are quoted at a set stretch (Decathlon uses twice resting length) and tension is lower earlier in the rep, before the band reaches that stretch [3].
Can I use the Bodylastics set from a US Amazon link?
This page links the Amazon.co.uk listing (B006NZZH18) with prices in GBP. We have not mapped a US listing yet, so readers outside the UK should check their local store.
